Every year, the world famous SEMA show is held in Las Vegas to highlight the best innovations and new products in the aftermarket automotive world. When most vendors and attendees take a flight to the show, we take the scenic route. For 2019, 14 off road enthusiasts, Youtubers, Internet TV stars take on 10 days of hardcore off road wheeling in heavily modified Jeeps/4x4s that spans 4 states and over 1800 miles in this endurance-testing adventure. Join us where the pavement ends on PowerStop’s Trail To SEMA.
Trail To SEMA 2019: Sand Hollow, Utah
In the last leg of our adventure, we leave Johnson Valley, head through our final destination of Las Vegas, and stop for two days in famous Sand Hollow, Utah. The OHV land is a prime destination for off road enthusiasts because of its freedom for creativity on obstacles and the vast array of trails already pre-cut. We’ve experienced some challenging obstacles on Trail To SEMA 2019 already, but Sand Hollow had even more in store us. What makes this location different from the others, though, is the increased amount of traction due to the terrain on Sand Mountain.
The Maze Trail…Backwards
In the spirit of trying some more difficult obstacles with the increased traction beneath our tires, we decided to tackle the Maze Trail, with a twist. We ran it backwards. The Maze is known for its steep hills and descents already, which meant running it backwards would be a test on the components of each Jeep and it’s driver to have control going downward. As you’ll hear a few of the wheelers mention, going down is often times more frightening than up.
Just because we ran The Maze backwards doesn’t mean we skipped on some of its most famous obstacles, though. “You Gotta Be Nuts” & “You Gotta Be Totally Nuts” were attempted by a few of the more confident members of the group. The straight vertical climbs are enough to give even the most experienced wheelers a run for their money. When BleepinMatt conquered them, his dry mouth and heavy breathing through the words “I’m just happy to be alive” seemed to foreshadowing for another obstacle later in the episode…
And of course, one of our favorite parts of the day was seeing Matt from Busted Knuckle Films go full send in his MegaRZR and take flight up a hill!
Halloween!
It was Halloween on trail…and we weren’t exactly in the neighborhood to go “Trick or Treating”, so we improvised. Look out for some costumes in the episode of Trail To SEMA, and even some of the vehicles dressed up! Most notably, we have TWO Ian Johnson’s to help introduce us to the trail before we set off, and if your eye is keen enough, you may spot a Kimono taking video in the background of some scenes.
