How To Install the PowerStop Z36 Truck & Tow Brake Upgrade Kit
The PowerStop Z36 Truck & Tow Brake Upgrade Kit is the ultimate upgrade for trucks that haul extra weight, tow a trailer or boat, have a larger wheel/tire combination, or simply want better stopping power.
Features and Benefits of the PowerStop Z36 Truck & Tow Brake Upgrade Kit
PowerStop’s Z36 Truck & Tow Brake Upgrade Kit gives you dust-free, quiet braking that will help prevent brake fade and brake fluid boil all in one kit for most vehicles. Its carbon-fiber ceramic low-dust formula offers extreme braking performance that is designed for trucks without sacrificing everyday drivability. Premium stainless-steel shims provide better heat dissipation and virtually noise-free braking. Cross-Drilled & Slotted Rotors allow air to flow through the rotor to dissipate the intense heat. They also allow air to flow to the rotor and pad contact area, helping not only to cool the rotor, but also the pad and rotor contact patch.
Things To Consider When Towing
When hauling a heavy load, it’s important to consider the following:
Brake Fade
Brake Fade is when the pedal feels firm but the vehicle will not slow down no matter how much pressure you apply. It occurs when the brakes overheat. Usually, when brakes start heating up, the adherent friction of leftover braking material on the rotors creates a tape-like bond with the brake pad. This helps slow your vehicle down. However, this adherent friction acts more like a lubricant when things get too hot. Brakes can overheat quickly when factoring in all the extra weight of towing/hauling.
Brake Fluid Boil
You’ll notice yourself using the brakes a lot while towing on long, downhill descents. Riding the brakes with all the weight behind you puts a lot of stress on your braking system. All this stress creates heat. Once the brake fluid in your calipers reaches its boiling point, brake fluid boil occurs. In this situation, you’ll notice the brake pedal will feel spongy and possibly go to the floor without the vehicle slowing down.
Load Weight
Trucks alone are some of the heaviest vehicles on the road. When you add the extra weight of your tow load, you’re asking a lot from your brakes to stop. There are different strategies to position the weight correctly on trailers, but you’ll also want to make sure your brakes can handle the job.
